Ensemble Songs

Click on the link below to listen to this song ensemble will be playing this song in Orlando.  It is an amazing jazz song with solos for each section.  I need a pianist and drummer as well.  It is not really fast but it is very smooth and must be played in the pocket.

Here is another piece that we are playing in Orlando.  It is very cool, upbeat, and "funky".  Please make sure you listen to it several times so that you understand how all the parts work together.  It is called rhythm sticks because guess what:  IT IS ALL ABOUT RHYTHMS INTERCHANGING BETWEEN PARTS!!!!

Here is Agincourt!!!!  Violas especially listen to this song so that you understand your solo that you have several times.  It is very important and you have to play it with confidence and move while you play it!!!

Chord Progressions

Chord Progressions happen horizontally, from right to left
CGDG is a I IV V I chord progression (the most popular type)
To figure out the notes in a I IV V I progression you simply write out the scale and number each degree
C D E F G A B C
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1

The chord progression for C would be: C F G C

To figure out the chords for the progression you think vertically. All chords (for right now) are comprised of 1,3, 5 (same as an arpeggio). C chord is C,E,G.....F chord is F,A,C.....G chord is G,B,D

For chords you simply take the first note, third note, and fifth note of the scale. Make sure you start with the first note of chord and not the first note in the chord progression.

Quiz tomorrow. Email me if you still don't understand.
